Power Search Filtering: Using Data Table Filters and Chips

Our advanced power search feature allows you to narrow your data quickly so you can find what you need. Look for the search bar as displayed below on our data tables. Note that not all data tables have power search filtering enabled at this time.

Data table Search Bar

How does it work?

Power search is a narrowing search similar to a Google search i.e. by adding more search terms the results will continue to be narrowed.

Example: Searching just Tank will show all types of tanks, searching Tank Calgary will return anything that is both a Tank and from Calgary, or has those written somewhere in the data columns.

In addition to the Power Search capabilities, we have now added a filtering mechanism that makes searching for desired results much easier.

Using Power Search Filters

Adding Chips to your Tables

Click the FILTERS button on the search bar to open the filter panel and see the different filtering options. Each data table will have different filtering options.

Open Filter Panel

Make the selections you are interested in on the filter panel and then when you are done, click the APPLY button. In the below image, I selected This Month from the Activity Date drop down and searched for and selected Tank Inspection from the Activity drop down.

Open Filter Panel with Selections

After clicking APPLY, your filter panel selections will be added as filter Chips above the data table and the data table will refresh showing the results. Your browser will remember the apply filter Chips for each data table you apply them to just like it remembers text entered in the search bar, column ordering, and your scroll position.

Changing the Date Range Chip

The date range Chip is a special chip as it allows you to modify the data table date range once it was been added to a data table.

First, make sure a date range Chip is already applied to your data table. Next, click on the underlined text of the date range Chip and a calendar will appear. Select the start and end dates and the calendar will close, the date range Chip will update, and the date table will refresh showing the new results.

Date Range Chip Calendar

Removing Chips from your Tables

To remove a filter Chip, just press the on the Chip. The data table will refresh showing the new results. If you want the data table to forget everything it remembered, click the CLEAR button  located on the right above the FILTERS button. The page will refresh with all Chips removed, text entered in the search bar gone, column ordering reset, and your scroll position back at the top. Note the CLEAR button only forgets everything for the data table you are currently viewing for the browser you are using. It won't effect your other data tables or devices you are using muddyboots.online with.

Background Exports

Once the filter chips have been applied, the results can be exported to Excel for further manipulation and sharing.

To accommodate larger exports in muddyboots.online exports over 1000 rows are created in the background to avoid a time out. This enables continued use of muddyboots.online while the download is in progress.

These exports can be retrieved from ‘My Downloads’ which is located under the personal drop down in the top right corner. A notification will also be displayed once the report is complete and ready to be downloaded.

Note: At this time background exports apply only to equipment exports.

Happy searching!

If you've done all you can with the Power Search Filters and want to do more, then this advanced section is for you.

Advanced Power Search

Using double quotations will ensure the phrase is returned in a specific order. For example, “Wellhead - Oil” from the well list will return all the wellheads in the system of that specific equipment type.

A minus sign (-) will return the information that does not match the search word. For example, -tank will return all the equipment in the system that is not a tank from the equipment list.

By default, the search will be able to pick up anything displayed in the data table. From the equipment page this default extends to include any text field, surface location, well license number, cost center, etc.. From the reports page the default will also search the text of an activity comment. To search anything that does not fall in one of these defaults you will have to use additional keywords.

has keyword:

Using the has keyword can return items that have a certain property. For example, to find all pieces of equipment that currently have an attachment enter has:attachment to the search bar. This will return all equipment that has attachments which could be used to view photos of various equipment.

is keyword:

The is keyword can be used to retrieve items that have been ‘flagged as’ a specific type, eg accounting. For example searching is:accounting  on the equipment page will return all the equipment that has been designated as accounting, so accounting meters, tanks etc. will be provided in the list.

The is keyword will also work for “tank in ground”, “third party operated”, “contract operated”.

Best Practice: Do not use spaces between keywords and search terms. The software will treat the space as an “&” which could return different results than anticipated.

Best Practice: When using keywords use only lower case. Upper case can return different results than anticipated.

Combining Terms:

All of the described search terms can be combined into sequences to further narrow the search results. Putting a space between words marks them as separate search terms. For example: is:accounting -tank the first term is ‘is:accounting’ while the second term is ‘-tank’. This would return any equipment flagged as accounting that was not a tank.

  • meter -has:notes will return any meters in the system that do not have notes.
  • has:attachments equipment failure will return the equipment failure that has an attachment.
